Se trata de la mayor manifestación de la cultura y tradición populares de la capital portuguesa, en homenaje a ella y a sus ciudadanos, entre ellos António de Lisboa. El Papa León XIII llamó a éste el Santo de todo el mundo y, quizás por eso, el aniversario de su muerte continúa siendo tan popular.  
Todos los días, los espacios públicos más emblemáticos de la ciudad, así como las estrechas calles de los barrios más históricos, acogen animación callejera, conciertos de fado, teatro y espectáculos, verbenas y marchas populares, entre muchas otras iniciativas para todos los públicos, en honor al patrón de Lisboa. Durante este mes, se reviven antiguas tradiciones, religiosas y profanas.   
Y todo comienza en uno de los lugares más emblemáticos de la ciudad: la Torre de Belém. Coincidiendo con la celebración de su 500 aniversario, el día 30 de mayo tuvo lugar el espectáculo de apertura en el que la torre y el río Tajo se fundieron en un único palco de teatro, con música e imágenes multimedia. Una experiencia sensorial que nos lleva a un viaje en el tiempo hasta el día de hoy.  
Otro de los eventos que tendrá lugar durante estos días es Andar em Festa, un festival que es resultado de un reto lanzado al público para intervenir en lugares poco convencionales e inesperados: las escaleras de Lisboa. La creación artística escapa de la sala de teatro, la discoteca o la galería de arte para ir a la calle, al espacio público, con música coral, DJs y proyectos artísticos y arquitectónicos en las escaleras de la ciudad, entre otros.  
Del 17 al 21 de junio, otro de los motivos por los que viajar a Lisboa coincidiendo con sus fiestas es el festival Lisboa Mistura que, desde 2006, se ha convertido en un espacio intercultural destinado al conocimiento de nuevos lenguajes y tendencias, donde música y Lisboa se mezclan para convocar a la reflexión.  
Por la noche, en los barrios más antiguos y populares de la capital hay bailes –como manda la tradición– y no faltan las sardinas asadas, el caldo verde, el pan con chorizo, los manjericos (plantas de albahaca fina), la cerveza y el vinto tinto.  
El mes de las festividades finaliza con Voz e Guitarra (“Voz y Guitarra”), un espectáculo en el que participan numerosos artistas portugueses de generaciones diferentes, volviendo al punto de partida de estas fiestas: un encuentro en el tiempo con la Torre de Belém y el río Tajo como plano de fondo.
